Devotion
December honors the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year, we contemplate the singular grace by which Almighty God prepared her to be the Mother of God.
Contemplation
Today, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of America and Star of the New Evangelization.1 On this day, we begin a year dedicated in a particular way to the mystery of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the first year of our five-year preparation for the celebration of the Quincentennial of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 2031. We shall contemplate the Woman promised in the Book of Genesis and revealed in glory in the Book of Revelation or the Apocalypse, who is the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The miraculous image impressed by God upon the tilma of Saint Juan Diego recalls both the Protoevangelium and the Apocalyptic woman clothed with the sun, through whom Almighty God continues to draw souls to His Incarnate Divine Son Who alone is our salvation.2 In her first words to Saint Juan Diego, she identified herself as “the ever perfect Holy Virgin Mary, who has the honor to be the mother of one true God,” (Nican Mopohua, no. 26).3 She is “ever perfect” for she was conceived without stain of original sin. Let us now turn our hearts and minds to contemplate more deeply the mystery of the Virgin Mother to whom Our Lord Jesus Christ entrusted the care of the Church when, dying on the Cross, He said to His beloved disciple: “Behold, your mother!” (Jn 19, 27).
Intention
Today, I place myself in the immaculate hands of the Ever-Perfect Virgin to be cleansed from all attachment to sin.
Daily Prayer
in the Year of the Immaculate Conception
December 12, 2026 — December 11, 2027
O Immaculate Virgin of Guadalupe, you were preserved by God the Father from every stain of sin from the first moment of your conception, that your sinless womb might become the dwelling-place of the Incarnate Word of God by the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit. On Calvary, your Divine Son, as He died for our sins, gave you as Mother to the Church. At Tepeyac, you appeared as the Mother who leads her children to the Savior through your miraculous image impressed by God upon the tilma of Saint Juan Diego. As we prepare to celebrate the Quincentennial of your apparitions at Tepeyac, we ask to know you ever more fully and to love you ever more ardently. Receive us, now, under the protection of your Immaculate Heart, and lead us in the Church to faithful obedience, perseverance in grace, and deeper communion with God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
